When travelers search for flights to the Philippines, they often wonder why ticket prices seem to change every time they check. Some think it’s “airline tricks,” others believe it’s all about booking months in advance.
The truth? Prices can change dramatically even within the same week - and I can prove it using our travel agency’s GDS (Global Distribution System) data. These are the same real-time fares we use to book clients’ tickets.

Four Example Dates, Four Very Different Prices
On Aug. 10, 2025, using our GDS, I pulled actual one-way fares from Toronto to Manila for four different departure dates. Here’s what I found (take note, this are one-way airticket prices):
Departure Date | Base Fare (CAD) | Taxes & Fees (CAD) | Total Fare (CAD) | Booking Class |
---|---|---|---|---|
Aug 14 | 400.00 | 395.43 | 795.43 | L |
Sep 10 | 207.00 | 395.43 | 602.43 | K |
Oct 7 | 400.00 | 395.43 | 795.43 | L |
Oct 9 | 1,020.00 | 343.73 | 1,363.73 | V |
What This Data Tells Us
Prices Can Swing Hundreds of Dollars
The cheapest date (Sep 10) is $761 less than the most expensive date (Oct 9).
This difference isn’t just about peak or off-peak season - it’s about seat inventory and fare class availability.
Fare Class Matters
Airlines sell seats in “buckets” (fare classes like K, L, V).
Once cheaper classes sell out, the system automatically moves to higher-priced classes — even if the plane isn’t full.
Taxes Can Equal or Exceed the Base Fare
Sep 10’s base fare is only $207, but taxes add $395 - nearly double the ticket price.
Taxes include airport fees, fuel surcharges, and government charges, many of which don’t change even when the base fare drops.
Routing Affects the Final Price
Different connection points (ORD, EWR, NRT, etc.) have different tax structures.
US connections often carry higher TSA and passenger facility fees, while some Asian routings may have higher fuel surcharges.
What This Means for Travelers
If you’re flying to the Philippines - especially from Canada - here’s what to keep in mind:
Be VERY Flexible With Dates: Even a one- or two-day shift can cut your fare significantly.
Look Beyond the Base Fare: Taxes and fees can dramatically change the total price.
Book and Buy Before Cheap Classes Disappear: Fare class changes can happen overnight.
Consider Different Routings: Some connection points result in lower total taxes.
Final Word
These aren’t guesses or scraped prices from a search engine - they’re real, live fares pulled directly from our professional booking system. If you want the best price, work with an agent who can see the same data the airlines see and guide you to the right date, route, and fare class.
